The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods (The Fairfax) is a continuing care retirement community located near Fort Belvoir, VA. This community was founded by a non-profit organization, the Army Retirement Residence Foundation of Potomac, and has been continuously upgraded since 1989. The Fairfax is the ideal option for seniors 55 years or older who want to remain active, engaged, and independent without the stress and inconvenience of homeownership. The monthly rates at The Fairfax start around $8,000 per month, which includes your suite, housekeeping, meals, and maintenance.
One of my favorite features of The Fairfax community is the walking trail, which sits on 60 beautiful acres. In addition, The Fairfax has, among other amenities, an indoor pool and tennis courts for fun and exercise; a charming 7-acre lake; a putting green for golf enthusiasts; and a wildlife sanctuary for the nature lovers. The Fairfax has a total of 347 independent living apartments and 35 cottages. For those with greater healthcare needs, the Fairfax has 52 assisted living suites, 23 memory care suites, and 56 Medicare-certified healthcare beds. The Fairfax is a military friendly community within proximity of the Fort Belvoir Military Base right off I-95 and Route 1.
Arden Courts of Annandale (Arden Courts) is community specifically designed for memory care patients. This community specializes in providing care for patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Some of my favorite features of this community includes its apparent charm and safety. Immediately after entering the double doors, you can feel how tranquil the Arden Courts community is. This community allows residents to maintain a level of independence while also ensuring their constant safety, promoting a sense of freedom and self-sufficiency. Residents of the Arden Courts are able to enjoy socializing areas, dining, and entertainment, which further fosters their independence and well-being. The rate at Arden Courts is all-inclusive at $8,600 per month.
One of the greatest attributes of Arden Courts is their staff, who are specially trained in caregiving techniques for the many types of dementia, to include Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia, and many other dementia-related diseases.
Brightview Woodburn is a senior living community located in Annandale, VA. This community provides independent living, assisted living, memory care, and enhanced care. Brightview Woodburn is always at the forefront of my mind due to its holistic approach to life enrichment and care. This approach incorporates five dimensions of wellness known as “SPICE” (Spiritual, physical, intellectual, cultural, and emotional). These five dimensions of wellness are used to help residents focus on vibrant living. This community has a very cozy, comfortable setting, which makes you feel like home as soon as you enter. Since the goal at this community is to keep the residents active and engaged, they consistently provide the residents with guest speakers, trips outside of the community, games, and exercise. Most importantly, the staff are amazingly attentive and friendly, and the community overall is wonderful.
One of the best aspects of the Brightview Woodburn community is its stairs. These stairs are uniquely constructed for seniors, so they have a short design, which helps prevent falling and allow for easier stairway ascension and descension. Brightview Woodburn offers studio suites, 1-bedroom suites, and shared suites at a monthly rate starting at $5,500.
Arbor Terrace Fairfax (Arbor Terrace) is a memory care community located in Chantilly, VA that solely focuses on seniors with dementia due to cognitive diseases, like Alzheimer’s disease. This community offers two memory care options for seniors: Bridges Neighborhood, which is a care option designed for seniors in the early stages of dementia; and Discovery Neighborhood, a care option intended for seniors in the advanced stages of dementia. Arbor Terrace is immensely knowledgeable about the challenges faced by seniors with dementia, and their 24/7 caregivers are trained in modern treatment strategies. To promote greater engagement, this community has many social activities and specifically designed therapies that help enhance the quality of life for patients with cognitive impairments. What appealed to me most about this community is how dedicated the staff are to their patients; they assist each patient according to their unique needs, ensuring they receive the best care possible.
Another significant benefit of Arbor Terrace is that they provide everything the residents need to live their life to the fullest while also skillfully addressing their memory care needs. This 48-apartment resort-style community ensures their residents live in a very safe and secure environment, with various on-site services and amenities, including a wellness and fitness program, wellness and sensory groups, housekeeping, transportation, activities, opportunities to safely explore the beautiful community, and more. Arbor Terrace also offers an incredible dining program called Dining with Dignity. This program's primary goal is to respectfully meet each resident's specific dining and eating needs, regardless of the difficulties involved, including support with utensils, special foods, chewing, and swallowing, allowing the dining experience to be as pleasant as possible. Arbor Terrace offers studio suites, private suites, and shared suites starting around $7,550 per month.
